  • Do NOT include your mailbox number in your address. This will only confuse the automated sorting machines used by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
  • Do NOT include the words, UCONN or University of Connecticut in the address format. The unique zip code (06269) alerts carriers that the mail piece belongs on campus.
  • Inform correspondents to use your first and last name when addressing your mail. Mail that arrives without a complete and/or discernible name may be returned to the sender.

** Mansfield & Northwood Apartment Residents

  • Residents of Mansfield & Northwood Apartments should use the Storrs Mansfield Zip code 06268 and receive mail directly from the USPS postal carriers.
  • On-campus mail will be delivered by the RA on duty to your apartment as it arrives in the office.
General Mailroom Information

Mailroom Hours of Operation Mailrooms are generally open 10am - 7pm M-F, & 11am-2pm on Sat. when classes are in session. Specific mailroom hours are posted near each mailroom.

Mailroom Guide
  • Mail will be accepted ONE WEEK prior to the start of classes in the fall, however mail and packages will not be accessible until the first day of classes.
  • Incoming freshman/transfer students from out of state who need items mailed and available before the first day of classes (such as linens and/or bedding), should contact Chrys Grigoriou at chrys.grigoriou@uconn.edu to make alternate arrangements.
  • Please inform your correspondents to use your first and last name when addressing your mail. Mail that arrives without a complete and/or discernible name may be returned to the sender.
  • Mailrooms are operational when classes are in session. The hours for each mailroom are posted on the doors. If inclement weather causes classes to be canceled, the mailrooms will also close at that time.
  • One mailbox is assigned to each room. Residents have access to their mailbox with either a key or a combination. Mail clerks will be happy to assist residents with combinations or box numbers, but cannot hand out mail from the mailbox to residents. PLEASE memorize your combination or bring your key to access your mailbox.
  • We use package tracking software that sends automatic emails when a package has been logged in for you. The email is generated when the package is scanned at our mailroom, but there can be up to a hour delay before the package slip is sorted to your mailbox. Please wait to pick up your package until the package slip has been sorted into your mailbox.
  • Please have your student ID and your package slip available when picking up your packages. In order to safeguard the mail, we require the recipient of the package to pick up and sign for their own packages.
  • We provide mail services to current residents of UConn housing. If you are not a current resident in UConn housing, please do not have mail or packages sent to a residence hall address. Mail & packages will not be held or available for pickup for non-residents.
  • To insure safe delivery, please request that all important mail (plane tickets, checks, birth certificates, etc) be sent by special service mail like Certified, Insured, Express, or Registered mail. Please inform correspondents NOT to send CASH or cash equivalent items through the mail.

Additional info for Overnight/Express packages sent by UPS, FedEx, & USPS Express Mail:

  • US Postal Service Express Mail will be accepted and delivered to resident hall mailrooms M-F. Express Mail packages due for delivery on Saturdays will not be delivered to campus until Monday. Students who would like to pick up Express Mail packages on Saturday from the Storrs Post Office should call the Post Office at 860-429-9681 on Saturdays between 8am 9:30am to have them hold it aside for pickup.
  • UPS or FedEx Overnight packages should be sent STANDARD Overnight, not Express Overnight. We recommend that you do not pay for the Express Overnight service, as no packages will be delivered before the mailrooms open at 10am. STANDARD Overnight and Express Overnight packages will be delivered to the mailrooms at the same time so there is no need to pay extra for a service that will not result in a quicker delivery.

Mail Forwarding

Residence Halls, Suites, Charter Oak, Hilltop & and Mansfield Apartments:

First Class mail and packages are forwarded automatically for 30 days after you move off campus to the home address in your PeopleSoft account. Please inform your correspondents of your new address.

Northwood Apartments:

Since you receive your mail delivery directly from the US Postal Service, you should fill out a forwarding request at the local Post Office or online at www.usps.com. Your mail is not automatically forwarded, so please inform the Postal Service of your forwarding address. Please also inform your correspondents of your new address.
