Hilltop Residence Halls

Ellsworth, Hale

Hilltop consists of two high-rise buildings with 8 residence floors and has some of the best views of campus. Made up of Ellsworth and Hale Halls, this facility is a ten minute walk to the center of campus and most academic buildings. Hilltop houses a diverse population of students, including upper-class and first-year students as well as several Special Interest Housing Communities: Community Service, Engineering, Women in Science and The Engineering First-Year Learning Community.

Single rooms are 8'6" x 12'6"; double rooms are 15'6" x 12'. Each room comes with a student desk and chair, small bureau, and a bunkable bed (1 piece of each furniture per each student). The mattress size for the beds are 80" x 36". The beds in Hilltop are bunks. The beds are not loftable and homemade lofts are not allowed in any residence hall.

Each building has an Area Council for students to get involved and plan events for the buildings. Look for the information in the fall to join! The Area Councils plan various trips and projects throughout the year: trips, ice cream socials, coffee houses, etc.! Information should be posted on the bulletin boards on your floor as they occur.

History

Ellsworth hall was named after Oliver Ellsworth who is remembered for his participation in government and his drafting of the Judiciary Act of 1789, which established the circuit and district court system.

Hale hall was named after Nathan Hale, who is remembered for his quote "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."

Hilltop also consists of Putnam Refectory, which was named for Israel Putnam who helped form the Sons of Liberty and in 1775 was appointed a major general in the Continental Army.

Hale and Ellsworth Halls, as well as Putnam Refectory, were built in 1971.
