Conference Housing - Residence Hall Policies
Alcohol
The possession or use of alcoholic beverages is restricted to those persons age 21 and older. Guests under the age of 21 should not be in the presence of alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is prohibited in guests' rooms when neither roommate has attained the age of 21. Common source alcohol containers and paraphernalia (ex. kegs, beer balls, funnels, etc.) are prohibited. Open containers and/or consumption of alcohol in public areas (ex. bathrooms, hallways, lounges, outside, etc.) are prohibited.
Appliances
UL approved popcorn poppers, coffee makers, and microwave ovens are permitted. Mini refrigerators (120 volts, 2 amps) are permitted and must be UL approved, equipped with a three prong grounded plug, and must be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. Refrigerators may not be more than 36" in height, and preferably only one per room. University policy prohibits the possession/use of toasters and hotplates in residence halls.
Fire Safety
For your safety, please evacuate the building immediately when the fire alarm sounds. The alarm will sound again to let you know it is safe to reenter the building. The burning of candles and/or incense is prohibited in all residence halls.
Pets
Pets and animals of any kind are prohibited for health, safety and sanitation reasons, except for certified guide dogs with notification to conference staff.
Quiet Hours
The University observes the following quiet hours: Sunday to Thursday 10:00pm to 7:00am and Friday to Saturday 12:00am to 7:00am. We ask that our guests adhere to the Universities policy both inside and outside of the residence halls. In addition, guests are expected to be considerate of their neighbors during all hours of the day.
Security
Residence hall security is a shared responsibility of the University staff and guests. All residence halls are generally secured no later than 11:00pm. For safety reasons, it is important that guests do not engage in leaving their room doors unlocked or lending keys to guests not living in the room. Given the risk to the overall community, we also ask that our guests do not engage in any "propping" of doors.
Smoking
In accordance with Connecticut State Law, no smoking is permitted in any areas of the residence halls.
Windows
For safety reasons, please do not drop, throw, or project any objects out a window. Please do not remove any screens from room windows or in public areas of the residence halls. Opening of security screens except in an emergency situation is prohibited.
