Alan Thacker Busby Suites (formerly Charter Oaks Suites)

Alan Thacker Busby Suites

Perched above North Campus, the Suites are truly a sight to behold. A central elevator accesses 4 floors holding 233 bedrooms, each connected by a shared bathroom. There are also 8 ADA compliant rooms. Each room is furnished with a desk, chair and dresser and a loft-able or bunk-able bed [with an extra-long twin 36.x 80. mattress] for each student, as well as a plush upholstered community chair and a spacious closet. Climate control is crucial to the attraction of our community, and each room contains a heating and air conditioning unit with an accessible thermostat.

The suites have 2-3 spacious lounges throughout the various floors, as well as 2 quiet study rooms on floors 2, 3 and 4. These are located at the ends of the hallway. Recreation opportunities abound up here, as our game room has an enormous TV and home theatre system, as well as pool tables, ping pong, foosball and air hockey, and we have basketball and volleyball courts located right behind the building. Mail services are located in the central office, by the elevators, and we accept weekday deliveries from US Mail, UPS and Federal Express.

The Suites are set up with two large rooms housing three students each, connected by a common bathroom. Each living space has a 9' ceiling and measures approximately 12' x 16', not including a spacious 8' x 5' closet that all three residents share. The living room itself has a large 71" x 59" window with an outside screen and a retractable shade. First floor windows are equipped with additional security screens for resident's safety. The floor is tiled and many residents choose to bring rugs or carpets.

The walls of the room are sheetrock, and it is suggested that you hang any posters with push-pin tacks, so as not to damage the paint with tape. Nails and screw holes may incur damage billing.

The bathroom features separate stalls for shower and toilet, as well as a wide mirror above the vanity sink and a wide shelf. The bathroom may be locked from the inside only, so think of your suitemates as extended roommates when having discussions regarding rules you'll want to live by during the year. The residents of the suite are responsible for the cleanliness of the bathroom at all times. They must provide their own cleaning and toilet supplies.

The rooms are tripled for the academic year and we suggest bunking one set of beds and lofting the other bed, and storing furniture under it. We also suggest not bringing up couches or futons until you are sure you'll have room for it. We do not have space to store any room furniture, and all university furniture must remain in the room, per our Code of Conduct.

Community Resources

There is a Main Office in the center of the first floor, across from the elevators. The office is attached to the student mail-boxes, and is also the place you'll want to visit to file work-orders, pick up packages, or speak to Hall Staff.

There is a study lounge located at the end of each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors, as well as "knuckle" lounges at the bends in the building. There is a Game Room located on the first floor, featuring a wide-screen TV and home theatre system, pool and ping-pong tables, air hockey, and Foosball. (We are looking for students to work in the game room and office, so if you have work-study from Financial Aid, don't hesitate to stop by the office to apply!)

Next to the Game Room is the Laundry Room, with 6 washers and 14 dryers made available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Payment for the washer/dryers can only be made by using the University One-Card System, so be sure to get your ID early.

Vending machines are located on the first floor near the game room. Ordinary room trash can be put in the trash rooms located near the elevators on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors. On the first floor trash can be deposited in the cans located in the vending machine room. Students can also take trash to the blue dumpster located at the end of the building.
